Antique Shagreen Verge Pocket Watch by Thomas Carpenter 18th Century
Beautiful English verge fusee pocket watch from the last quarter of the 18th century. It has a shagreen covered outercase and a gilt metal innercase. Both cases are marked with TC, the makers mark of Thomas Carpenter, a renowned watchmaker in London of that era.
The inner- and outer watch case are both in very good condition. The shagreen has no damages, there is some patina on the gilt metal, the dial has some hairline cracks and the glass-lid is not closing properly.
The verge fusee movement is a real piece of craftsmanship as can be seen on the photos. It is signed Alex Ainoe, London and numbered 261. It is in a good condition and is running well. At the moment, the pocket watch is only wound a few times a year. I recommend a service if it will be used regularly.
The diameter of the outer watchcase is 47 mm and the total weight is 85 grams.
The watch will be delivered with an antique watch key! (Last photo)
