€850,00

Wheel or banjo barometer made by the Butti family in the 1st half of the 19th century. It is beautifully made of mahogany wood with a hygrometer on top, a thermometer below and in the bottom there's a level to install it correctly. On the dial around the level is inscripted "Geb. Butti fecit Amsterdam', which translates to Brothers Butti made it in Amsterdam. Inside the barometer is another inscription in Italian which translates to: Made in June 1843, Donato Butti and Sons, Amsterdam.

The Butti family were famous instrument makers in the late 18th- and 19th century, best-known for their barometers. Besides Amsterdam there were also some family members active in the United Kingdom (Edinburgh and London).

The condition is good, all functions are working. There is some ageing visible on the silvered dials, but there are no damages visible. The accuracy has not been tested.

The barometer has a great size of 108 cm, or 42 inches, the diameter of the wheel is around 26 cm or 10 inches.
