Philips speaker designed around 1930 by the Dutch designer Louis Kalff. 

Louis Christiaan Kalff (1897-1976) was a famous Dutch designer. He worked as a designer with the Philips company from around 1925-1965 where he was responsible for several illustrious designs.  Besides his work for Philips he operated as a freelance designer for several other companies.

The style of this speaker resembles the "Nieuwe Zakelijkheid", a Dutch period of modernist design from the 1920s till the 1930s. The Nieuwe Zakelijkheid or New Objectivity was characterized by angular shapes and designs free of ornamentation and decoration.

The speaker was nicknamed the Pancake due to its characteric shape. It is made of bakelite with a steel triangular base. The bakelite is still in a very good conditionc, there is no chipping visible. The steel base shows a bit of ageing.

The functionality of the speaker has not been tested!

The dimensions of the pancake are: width 40 cm, height 43 cm, depth 18cm and the weight is 3150 grams.
