Butti fecit Amsterdam', which translates to Brothers Butti made it in Amsterdam. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003eInside the barometer is another inscription in Italian which translates to: Made in June 1843, Donato Butti and Sons, Amsterdam.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Butti family were famous instrument makers in the late 18th- and 19th century, best-known for their barometers. Besides Amsterdam there were also some family members active in the United Kingdom (Edinburgh and London).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe condition is good, all functions are working. There is some ageing visible on the silvered dials, but there are no damages visible. The company was well-known for producing marine and industrial instruments, like f.e. the Compactum fresh distiller which converts seawater into drinkable fresh water. The company was active until the late 1920's.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur thermograph is in a good condition. The internal mechanism to rotate the paper diagram is still functional, you can wind it on top. The bimetallic strip and lever all seem ok. Only the pen at the end of the lever is missing. The serial number of the instrument is 570, which dates it around 1890-1900.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe outer case is made of copper with brass, the lid is a bit loose. There are 2 screws missing at the point where it hinges. The bottom is made of cast iron.
