Louis Théophile Hingre (1832-1911) was a French painter, sculptor, engraver, illustrator and poster artist. His specialty was sculptures of animals.
Émile Müller (1823–1889) was also a man of many talents. He became famous as a ceramist, he collaborated with many French animalier sculptors to produce the most beautiful animal sculptures. After his death he was succeeded by his son and the company became the largest factory of ceramic products for buildings, industries and works of art in the world. In 1889 they made the stoneware balustrades for the Eiffel Tower for the World's Fair.

The sculpture has a height of 21, a width of 9 and a dept of 13 cm. It is marked E. Muller at the bottom of the base, and inside the base are many more markings and stamps of the Émile Müller company.
